Reno SCCA Time Trials with Syborg

Adam Auerbach is back in action with Syborg after dealing with major transmission failures. Now running a 6 speed instead of auto trans, he bested his last times by 6 seconds.

Reno SCCA Time Trials at Reno-Fernley Racetrack April 21, 2012 Configuration H.

First time out on a racetrack with the new custom manual transmission, pedal box, remote shifter and steering column. Temps were in the 80 range and the track was a bit greasy at times. My best lap time was a 2:02.483 which is about 6 seconds quicker than my best lap time with the automatic transmission on the same track configuration.

Mechanically everything worked flawlessly and nothing overheated. The truck behaved quite differently since the transmission swap and I can feel the weight loss and it responds to turn in better with less understeer. I had only two complaints really. I found the heel and toe a bit challenging as I probably need to re-adjust the pedal heights so it’s easier to blip the throttle and my left shin suffers from fatigue as now there is no dead pedal thanks to the clutch pedal taking up space.

All in all it was lots of fun and rewarding knowing that the culmination of time, money and effort is beginning to pay off. One thing I’m going to have to accept is the fact the truck’s center of gravity is just too high and really not much can be done to change this without tube framing it and completely changing the suspension pick up points. At that point, it’s not even a truck anymore. I have a few more tweaks up my sleeve that should gradually lower my lap times aside from improving my driving technique. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Project Downforce

We will be following a project build being done by our own SyTySolo’s co-founder Adam Ribakoff has he builds a custom front splitter and side skirts for his Syclone. Being built from carbon fiber and fiberglass, the front splitter will feature an integrated front scoop for the air to air setup. Although this setup is being built primarily for cosmetic purposes and not full racing spec, we still dig the style and idea behind a Syclone running around with this setup. Look for an article soon which documents the build!

With much anticipation, we will soon be opening up the SyTy Solo Membership section of the site to allow everyone to join in on the autoX movement within the SyTy Community. We will be offering different package levels which will provide you with Official SyTy Solo membership gear along with granting members various levels of further access within the site. We have been excited to see how much enthusiasm and interest this site has already brought within only a few days of going live. Because of that, we want to provide our members with the best we have to offer.

We are working hard adding more information to the site on a daily basis as well as setting up the SyTy Solo Shopping cart which will carry a variety of goods and merchandise. If you have pictures, video, or information that you think we could use, we urge you to contact us!

Our goal is to provide the most accurate and up to date information for SyTy owners who are interested in or already involved with the growing popularity of Solo racing (autocrossing).
